I see you are after the truth rather than after political membership in any particular school of thought. You just don't know the extent to which the current guard is willing go to conserve the old order. That's human nature. A new physics must come from the outside and displace the othodoxy by force. Their faith must be destroyed and their religion abolished. What kind of physics do we need? We need a physics based exclusively on particles, their properties and their interactions. To empower this new physics, we must discard all the mathematical formalisms that are cluttering the physics landscape and clouding our thinking. One cannot create sensible physics by manipulating spacetime equations when one has not the slightest clue as to the physical mechanisms and processes that give rise to the phenomenon we call spacetime. We need to fully grok the physical processes involved. The math will and should come later in order to describe the macroscopic consequences of the microscopic processes. On the list of things that need to be discarded is the following: 1. Continuity. Again, all we need are particles, their properties and their interactions. Everything else is either abstract or voodoo. Continuity must be discarded because it requires infinity. Space does not exist for this reason (there are several others). Space is seen as the physical entity in which must reside all physical entities. The problem arises if one asks, in what space does space reside? And you immediately run right smack into an infinite regress problem. A time dimension is illogical because it forbids motion. I explain this on my site. In brief, we need a revolution in physics and the old guard will have to go. Nenesis
