Due to the size of the extra dimensions, the new particles, if not massless, are exceptionally heavy. In the in some cases the SM particles come from the reduction; in some they are present already. The idea is that the graviphoton has some exceptionally weak coupling and also (I believe: this is also probably model-dependent) gets a large mass. phobos
