The KK reduction is the rewriting of a higher dimensional theory in terms of a lower-dimensional effective description with more particles.

Due to the size of the extra dimensions, the new particles, if not massless, are exceptionally heavy.

In the in some cases the SM particles come from the reduction; in some they are present already.

The idea is that the graviphoton has some exceptionally weak coupling and also (I believe: this is also probably model-dependent) gets a large mass.
