In the scenario of one large dimension, the metric in the larger space becomes the metric on the brane plus a "graviphoton" vector particle. It's the excitation of these highly-energetic graviphotons that is often the target of such searches. It's not that particles are "bouncing around" in extra dimensions, but that extra dimensions alter the spectrum of particles at low energies. phobos
