Possible contradiction in extra dimensions conjecture

In the gravity only large extra dimension idea it's been proposed that one way of searching for evidence of these dimensions is to look for harmonics of the characteristic energy needed to probe these dimensions in high energy particle collisions, where the probing energy is expected to start at about 1TeV. The idea is that a particle will bounce around inside the large dimension at multiples of the probing energy. But this would seem to be at variance with a basic tenet of the theory which forbids all particles except gravitons (which are loops in string theory and thus not stuck to the domain wall of our 4D space) from entering the large scale dimensions. I must be overlooking or misinterpreting something as this objection seems too obvious, but at the moment I can't think of a way around this seeming contradiction. Any thoughts on this issue would be appreciated.
