However I have discovered, through links by Kx21, that Wikipedia has an inspirational set of pages on the topic, which I think you would enjoy exploring. http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derivative I studied calc years ago in university but remember it as hard work for low pay. However, my feeling this morning is that it isn't really low pay, it is just that my teachers never got to the pay-off. For whatever reason, possibly my own dull nature, I didn't see the beauty that is clearly displayed in the wikipedia pages. I am sure I couldn't add anything of interest to their fascinating discussion. One of the many joys of the internet is that it can provide a means of self guided study. Perhaps you would be interested in a discussion based on the wikipedia pages. I have much to learn, but I have gotten old and stupid and have been hit on the head too many times to expect any favorable results. Still, scrolling through wikipedia felt to me like a trip to Disney world. A little overwhelming, but lots of fun. Thanks, Pianowow, and thanks Kx21, for being here. RTH
