"like a marble placed on a loose drum" very nice description. However, it implies that the only reason for the distortion is a lack of something within the object creating the gravity. In your example, there is no drum within the marble therefore it distorts it. If you take that same marble and place it in water I could see it distorting the water. But if you place water in the water...you know. So, perhaps it is a lack or excess of something that is linked to gravity. Am I on the wrong track here? Respond, please.
