i agree that Hilbert space is a function space of infinite dimension, and accept the dimension of the string spacetime as 11 (or 26, etc). given this, i can appreciate that the four non-compactified dimensions would allow you to account for GTR, but i don't see how you could handle the (what seems to me to be) the infinite domain of the Hilbert space. you state that "the dimension of the domain is 11". are you saying that there is a basis of 11 functions that defines l^2 ? ronron
