Aren't you confusing dimensionality of a state vector with dimensionality of spacetime? After all, the wave equation and operator formulations of QM are equivalent -- and the wave equation is definitely not intended to apply in infinite spacetime dimensions. It was formulated for the spacetime we know and love, and only later was it recognized that nasty little infinities cancelled out in quantum relativity only for certain critical numbers of dimensions of spacetime.
