In essence there is only one "string" type vibrating in different modes that generates all the different particles via those different modes. If my own ideas and those of Smolin and others are correct then actually even the String and the different Brane states are all formed from different combinations/variances of some basic simple structures. So the statement is actually correct that we need only one string, only one membrane existing in different arrangments to generate everything we have out here in the Cosmos. LQFT was designed to explain what Strings and Branes are composed of. String Theory/brane world concepts were designed to explain how the particles all got formed and why we have different forces in nature. Its all a composite whole which it seems people in both camps have not actually begun to see how they interact and blend together. Some in the LQFT camp speak as if that idea makes string theory obsolute. People in the String camp act as if the String was the only fundamental state when even some of its founding Fathers have begun to side against that stance themselves. To fully understand nature you need both. The math behind Loop Theory is far less complex than that behind String Theory. However that makes sence itself. One generates simple structures that make up a string. The other generates all the particles and forces. Nature at all levels even with the human body starts with simple structures and builds the more complex. The more complex the harder the math is that explains them up to a point after which things tend to break down again on macro scales into simpler geometry.
