A stitch/sew/patch approach to space-time. Each empty box, as you call it is then filled with some bits of the fabric of space-time. However, might I suggest that these boxes are already filled with the bits of space-time and that all the sewing/patching/stetching does is rearrange that into specific fabric patterns of space-time we encounter at larger scales. In essence you cannot sew if you don't have string/fabric to sew with. To get string you take bits of fabric and weave them together and from this you construct you're fabric. The process works for man and I suspect it works for nature also.
